A Dairy Story has been selected for the 13th Parish Film Festival, screening at the Jersey Arts Centre on 19 May at 6pm as part of a festival programme running from 18 to 24 May.
The screening will be introduced by the film’s producer, Lorna Young, and Anthony Field, Head of Compassion in World Farming UK. Compassion in World Farming is the Official Partner of A Dairy Story. A Q&A will follow, hosted by India Thompson, a Jersey cattle farmer currently trialling cow-with-calf methods with her own herd, which will bring a local dimension to the screening.
Jersey has been synonymous with dairy farming for centuries, and the Jersey cow, prized for the richness of its milk, has become one of the most recognisable dairy breeds in the world. Several farms in England that have introduced a cow-with-calf dairy system work with Jersey and Jersey-cross cows, whose temperament and milk qualities make them particularly well suited to it, including Lancashire farmers, Michael and Lisa Kelsall who feature in A Dairy Story. The discussion after A Dairy Story is expected to be of particular interest to those working in dairy farming and regenerative agriculture.
Now in its thirteenth year, the 13th Parish Film Festival has grown into a full week of screenings, masterclasses and events, presenting local and international work alongside films that have screened at Sundance, Venice and Cannes.
